Today we have just the one runner at Huntingdon, Abaya Du Mathan with amateur Gearoid Harney on board. He runs in the 2.30pm handicap chase over 2m3f. This is a more suitable race than last time which was in the Grand Military Gold Cup and he is about 8/1 in the betting. His profile is a bit in and out and he has just won the one race since joining us but the form of his third placing two starts back was pretty good in the context of this race. The winner that day bolted up in a better race at Newbury on Saturday and our fella will prefer the better ground he is going to get today. The handicapper has given him a chance by dropping his rating and with Gearoid taking seven pounds off I hope he can run okay.
There is also jumps racing today at Hexham but there are pretty poor field sizes across their card today. I am not sure why but can only assume there has been so much jumps racing in the last 10 days that perhaps there are simply not quite enough horses to go around! People were keen to get a run into their horses because the rain came but then horses take varying amounts of time to be ready to run again and maybe they are not quite ready again just yet. We have to carefully consider travel these days when making entries as it is a long way to some of these Northern tracks! You have to weigh up all the factors before deciding whether it is worth running up there or not. Race planning, as we have said many times is probably is the biggest factor however and something needs to be done. Philip Armson rides up at Hexham this afternoon for his father, this is his first ride back from a 14 day ban so hopefully he can make the long journey worthwhile.
There is all weather action at Wolverhampton while there is no racing under either code in Ireland today.
Yesterday at Wincanton, Texard showed up well for a long way while Duc De Beauchene ran okay to be third. He stayed on near the finish but could not catch the front pair.
The European football qualifiers continue this evening and Scotland have a tough home match against Spain. Wales are also at home to Latvia. Both won their opening matches and will be hoping to get a few more points tonight.
I tried to sue the airport for misplacing my luggage. I lost my case. Have a good Tuesday!
