Nibras Gold Winner at Ffos Las

It was a great double for the team at Ffos Las yesterday thanks to nice wins for Nibras Gold and Walk of the Roses.  Both horses are owned by the Value Racing Club and were ridden by Jack Tudor so it was doubles all round.

Nibras Gold was having his first run back since a winter break and wind surgery. He led at a good pace, jumped well and kept finding for pressure when challenged from two out. He loves quicker ground and was a strong stayer on the flat so he may get further over hurdles. We do have him entered back at the track on Saturday so we will see how he is in the coming days before deciding if he is likely to head back to west wales again at the weekend.

Walk of the Roses made a winning racecourse debut in the concluding bumper. She was prominent throughout and was the meat in the sandwich for a lot of the way up the home straight but showed a terrific attitude to battle on well and pull clear of her rivals inside the last furlong. She ran a little green but showed great tenacity so things look bright for her long term future.

Gwencily Berbas finished third in his staying chase, finding the ground a little on the quick side but he galloped all the way through the line. He is now off on a well earned retirement.  He has a lovely home to go to and he will have a smashing life after racing. He won six races in his career, three over fences and three over fences. Rated 151 at best he won over £130,000 in prize money and was placed on 17 occasions from 43 starts. He is a lovely character at home and he will be sadly missed but we are all delighted he is leaving to have a happy and active retirement.

Today we have one runner at Huntingdon, Only Fools. She runs in the 3pm Mares handicap hurdle and Jack Tudor rides. She has gained some experience in three novice hurdles and runs in her first handicap mark of 78 today. We have left her hood off for the first time and she will appreciate the quicker going conditions this afternoon, the first time she has encountered this in Britain. She is 11/2 third best in the betting and hopefully she can give our Racing Club Members something to shout about.

As well as Huntingdon there is also jumping up at Hexham today. On the flat they race at Wolverhampton, Ayr and Brighton while in Ireland they have a jumps meeting at Punchestown and a flat card at Gowran Park.

Last night in the football it was a 0-0 draw between Newcastle and Leicester.  This means that Newcastle have definitely secured a top four spot and will be playing Champions League football next season.  At the other end of the table, Leicester are still two points from safety with just one game to go.  There is no Premiership action this evening.
