Bashful Boy Wins Salisbury!

It is a busy Bank holiday Monday day for racing today and we have one runner up at Cartmel, Duc De Beauchene. He runs in the veterans chase at 3.30pm and Jack Tudor rides. Our ten year old has been in terrific form of late and won the Norfolk National last time out at Fakenham, his first try at a marathon trip and he saw it out really strongly. Today's race is 3m5f and he is pretty unexposed at this distance and hopefully there is even more to come. As he has got older he seems to have preferred the better ground conditions and so it should be ideal. It is a fairly competitive race but I think we have a good chance.

Over the weekend our jumpers did perhaps not perform to expectations but it was great to get a winner on the flat at Salisbury on Saturday evening thanks to Bashful Boy. He was given a great ride by Rob Hornby although I have to confess a win did not look that likely until the last half a furlong when he picked up real well to get up near the line. He has a thoroughly likeable attitude and it was especially good to get this performance under his belt after two falls on his last two hurdle starts. I’m sure the handicapper may nudge his rating up a little more (from 80) but I do think there is more in the locker on the flat for our seven year old. Saturday's win was over 1m6f and he was doing his best work late on and so I’m sure two miles will suit him even better as well. I’m not sure of exact plans for him going forwards but I would think he will continue to mix the flat and the jumping going forwards.

There are two jumps meetings today at Cartmel and Huntingdon while on the flat they race at Windsor, Redcar and Leicester. In Ireland they have a jumps card at Ballinrobe.

The Premiership season has come to an end and it was Leicester who were the final team to be relegated, joining Southampton and Leeds. Everton knew a win for them would keep them safe and they beat Bournemouth 1-0 to ensure they stayed up. Leicester did win their final game as well, beating West Ham 2-1 but it was too little too late and the former Champions will be playing championship football next season.

Yesterday evening we had a lovely time watching the T20 cricket in Taunton. Somerset played really well to beat Glamorgan and maintain their unbeaten record in the competition this season.

In the Monaco Grand Prix yesterday, Max Verstappen came in first followed by Fernando Alonso coming second and Esteban Ocon coming in third (his third time on the podium in Formula 1) alongside his former team mate.

Today there is point to point racing in Devon at Upcott Cross. A couple our jockeys have rides so I shall let you know how they get on tomorrow.

I saw a bow tie made of solid mahogany. I told by husband I was going to buy it for him but I wasn’t sure he would wear it. He replied “wooden tie?” Have a great day!
