Today we have one runner on the flat at Newbury, Lady Reset. She runs in the 4.55pm apprentice handicap over 1m2f and Aiden Brookes rides. The ground should suit and this represents the weakest race she has contested on the flat so far this summer so I would like to hope she won’t be too far away come finish at a good each way price of 12/1.
The jockey is not someone we have used before but the race conditions are for jockeys who have ridden less than 50 winners in their career. Aiden is based up North with Micky Hammond and had ridden 38 winners so is pretty experienced for this race and he has been in good recent form as well. Fingers crossed he and Lady Reset can give us something to shout about this afternoon.
Alongside Newbury there is also four other flat meetings as well at Wolverhampton, Epsom, Thirsk and Newmarket. There are two meetings in Ireland, a flat card at Cork and a jumps card at Tramore. Jumps racing action returns tomorrow after the mini-break and our lorry is already on its way to Scotland as we have two runners at Perth tomorrow, Red Happy and Favori De Sivola. More news on them in the morning!
There was a special winner up at Beverley yesterday as Macarone won the 5F nursey in the colours of the Rob Burrow Racing Club. The two year old is trained by Craig Lidster and was ridden to victory by Paul Hanagan who was emotional after the race as he is from Warrington himself and was brought up with rugby league and has known Rob for a long time. The syndicate helps to support and spread awareness of motor neurone disease, which Rob Burrow was diagnosed with in 2019.
As I thought, Nijinsky dominated the People’s Champion racehorse vote against Viking Flagship, Morley Street and Generous and goes through to the next round. The next horses up for the vote are Sprinter Sacre, Menorah, Jodami and L’Escargot and this could be a little more difficult to call. I think Sprinter Sacre may win this one as he is from more recent times but L’Escargot was the last horse to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the Grand National so it could be a tight call.
Premier League football action returns the evening and Nottingham Forest play Sheffield United at 8.00pm. Both teams lost their opening games of the season so will be desperate to get some points from today’s match but I think the home team should win this one.
Last night in the cricket hundred competitions Manchester Originals beat Trent Rockets by 10 runs. Tonight, London Spirit play the Northern Superchargers.
My friend says the salads I make tend to be a bit on the “dry side”. It’s definitely something that needs addressing. Happy Friday!
