Jumps racing resumes today after a mini-break and we have two runners at Perth. Red Happy and Favori De Sivola made the journey to Scotland yesterday, leaving early to beat the Friday traffic they had arrived at the course and were having a pick of grass by lunchtime.
Red Happy runs in the 3.55pm handicap hurdle over three miles and Jack Tudor rides. While you could argue he is perhaps not quite as good over hurdles as fences I would think he is very well handicapped off a mark of 105. He will prefer going right handed today and as long as they don’t get too much rain I think he has a good each way chance. He doesn’t mind soft going but I think he is just better on a quicker surface.
Favori De Sivola makes his stable debut in the 4.30pm handicap chase over three miles and Jack Tudor rides. He has won five chases in his career to date and won at Exeter last season before his form tailed off a little. He joined us a little earlier this summer and has had wind surgery and wears first time blinkers this afternoon. He is back down to his last winning mark of 115 and goes well at home so we are hopeful of a big run. He has form on all sorts of ground and fingers crossed he can run well this afternoon
Perth is not the only jumps meeting today, they also race at Market Rasen over the sticks. No jumps racing for nearly two weeks, two meetings today and nothing tomorrow, I will leave it there! There are also five flat meetings at Ripon, Newbury, Newmarket, Doncaster and Bath. In Ireland they have two flat meetings at the Curragh and Tramore.
Lady Reset was a non-runner at Newbury yesterday because of the rain softened going. We were just about to load her on the lorry when the course updated their going. They had 12mm of rain between 7am and 10am and with further rain also due we decided not to travel. The firmer the ground the better for her and when there is soft in the description she does not enjoy it and so we will wait for another day.
Last night Nottingham Forest beat Sheffield United 2 -1. There is plenty of Premiership football action today which includes Spurs against Manchester United at 5.30pm and Manchester City against Newcastle United at 8pm this evening. In the women’s world cup there is the 3rd/4th playoff match between Sweden and Australia at 9am.
In the Hundred cricket last night London Spirit beat Northern Superchargers by 13 runs. There are two matches today with Trent Rockets against Birmingham Phoenix at 2.30pm and Southern Brave against the Oval Invincibles at 6pm.
In the BMW Golf Championships in America, Rory McIlroy was sharing the lead with Brian Harman after round one and looks to be hitting top form.
