Hopefully there are two jumps meetings today at Southwell and Warwick, I say hopefully as Southwell must pass a 7.30am inspection. The stable does not have any runners today. There are two jumps meetings in Ireland at Naas and Clonmel. Clonmel must pass a 7.30am inspection as well but I think they are quite confident as jockey Gearoid Harney has been in touch with the clerk of the course.
Gearoid is travelling over there to ride today and didn’t want to travel if it was too doubtful! He rides a horse called Whatyouwant in the mares maiden hurdle at 6.18pm. I think he may have a family connection to the horse but don’t quote me on that! They are about 20/1 in the betting so hopefully they can run well. There is just the one flat meeting today, on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.
Jack Tudor goes to Southwell to ride today for Christian Williams. The second of his rides is a horse called Uno Mas. While I don’t personally know the horse, I know he is a favourite of jockey Ellis Collier. Poor Ellis had been coming to Pond House to ride out a bit, but unfortunately he is on the side-lines at the minute with a broken leg. While riding out for his boss Christian Williams, another horse kicked out and got him on the lower leg breaking his tibia and fibula. He needed an operation which I believe has gone well but he will be out of action for a while so wishing him a speedy recovery.
Harry Cobden is in action at Southwell today with some good chances, while Sean Bowen is at Warwick and also looks to have good chances of having a winner or two!
It was very sad yesterday to hear of the news that jockey Stefano Cherchi had sadly passed away at the age of 23. He has ridden more than 100 winners in Britain when based at Newmarket and had gone over to Australia in January to ride. He suffered a mid-race fall in Australia two weeks ago and has been in intensive care in New South Wales with a serious head injury since March 20th. I have been reading all the online tributes and it seems like he was a very popular and well liked person so are thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
Last night in the football Arsenal were at home to Luton and succeeded with a 2-0 result moving them back up the top of the Premier League table. Brentford were against Brighton and after full time the game ended in a dull draw. Manchester City were up against Aston Villa and Manchester City continued to apply pressure to Premier League title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
Tonight there are two Premiership football matches this evening, Liverpool are at home to Sheffield United at 7.30pm while Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea, 8.15pm kick off.
I was really struggling to get my husband’s attention…
So I sat down on the sofa and looked comfortable. That did the trick!
Have a good day!
