There is just the one jumps card today at Ffos Las but the stable does not have any runners. There was due to be jumping at Newton Abbot but that was already abandoned earlier on due to waterlogging. That is now their first two meetings of 2024 they have lost with their next racing scheduled to be on 8th May. Newton Abbot aren't the only ones who have been battling with the weather, as over in Ireland Gowran Park has also had to cancel their recent scheduled meetings. There are two flat meetings, on the grass at Newmarket and on the Tapeta at Newcastle. In Ireland they race over jumps at Naas.
The Craven meeting at Newmarket gets underway today with some competitive looking races while we look forward to the Nell Gwyn stakes tomorrow.
Confirmations were made yesterday for the Scottish National at Ayr on Saturday. Willie Mullins has six left in the £200,000 contest headed by Macdermott while Paul Nicholls have three entries left in the race at this stage. With the trainers championship now so close this race, and the Scottish Champion hurdle could have a big influence in the title race. Mullins sits £52,000 in front of Dan Skelton and has a total of 33 entries on Ayr’s Saturday card. Skelton has 20 entries across the card compared to Paul Nicholls who just has the 14!
Last night in the football Chelsea & Everton played in the Premier League and Chelsea played a dominating game finishing up on 6-0. The defeat for Everton leaves the side in precarious position, especially with games against Liverpool and Arsenal to come before the end of the season.
Champions League football action returns this evening with quarter finals. Barcelona have a 3-2 lead over Paris St Germain ahead of the second leg at 8pm while Borussia Dortmund are at home but are 1-2 down to Athletico Madrid.
