Walk of The Roses runs today!
It was a quiet day yesterday with no runners from the yard, but we are back racing today with one runner at Newton Abbot. Walk of The Roses runs in the first race on the card the 2:28pm Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle over 2mile 1f with Jack Tudor taking the ride.
This is her first run after a holiday and her debut over obstacles. She won a bumper at Ffos Las last summer and then finished runner-up at Uttoxeter. She has schooled well at home and she is in good form and it's a good place to start.
Other than Newton Abbot today there is also jumps action at Cartmel with the flat meetings at Beverley, Hamilton and Kempton. In Ireland, they have a flat card at Tipperary and jumping action at Wexford.
All eyes are set firmly on the flat for Epsom on Saturday and the Betfred Derby. Recent Derby-winning jockey Richard Kingscote, has been booked to partner 150-1 outsider Kamboo. He landed a fairy-tale win in the Derby two years ago aboard Desert Crown for Sir Michael Stoute who was favourite at the time, so this year he will be coming at it from a different angle being on one of the outsiders of the field. Another jockey hoping his fortune can change in the Derby will be Oisin Murphy, as he missed a first Derby success, when he was replaced on Adayar in 2021. He will be aboard Bellum Justum this year for trainer Andrew Balding.
