Steppenwolf wins on stable debut!
Yesterday we had 5 runners for the stable at Ffos Las. Pub Crawl ran in the opening race on the card and to be honest, nothing went right for him at all. He jumped the first well and after getting hampered at the 2nd hurdle and then losing his rhythm it was race over, I think we can put a line through that run.
Steppenwolf made his debut for the stable and secured our third winner of the new season. He jumped well throughout and finished looking like he had plenty left and was given a lovely ride by Jack Tudor. Nibras Gold ran well to finish second only beaten 3/4 lengths on his first start over fences, he jumped well and he usually goes well fresh. Ocean Heights was our next runner on the day and ran well to finish third on his return to obstacles after a spell on the flat, he didn't quite see out the race as well as we'd hoped, but it was a good run back. Kepagge was our last runner of the day and he ran his best race for a long time and he just bumped into a well treated rival, but kept galloping to the line.
Today we have 2 runners, 1 runner each over both codes. Rebel Angel runs at Chepstow in the 5:15pm Apprentice Handicap over 1mile 4f with Ethan Jones riding. She returns for a spin on the flat after a short break and waiting for some better ground and this looks a good starting point for her.
Over at Stratford it is the only jump fixture in Britain today and we have Castle Daragh running at their hunter chase evening in the 6:05pm Novices’ Hunters’ Chase over 2miles 6½f with Conal Kavanagh riding. His last three runs in point to points he has been second twice and won last time out in a hunter chase at Chepstow under a good ride from Conal. He has been in great form and hopefully he can run another solid race.
There is also flat racing at Epsom, Doncaster, Carlisle and Catterick. In Ireland, they race over the flat at Down Royal and over jumps at Tramore.
The classic weekend gets underway with the fillies in the Betfred Oaks at Epsom at 4:30pm. Ylang Ylang's staying on effort for 5th in the 1,000 guineas has ensured her favouritism for today's race and trainer Aidan O'Brien has won the race in 6 of the last 10 years. Last year's Oaks winning trainers John & Thady Gosden do not have a runner in it this year but they do hold a great chance with Emily Upjohn in the Coronation Cup who is looking for her second consecutive success.
Three fish are in a tank.
One asks the others "how do you drive this thing?"
Happy Friday!
