Yesterday we had a quiet day with no runners and we are quiet today with our next runners tomorrow. There is jumps racing at Market Rasen being the sole jumps card, while on the flat there are meetings at Thirsk, Brighton, Haydock, Goodwood and Bath. In Ireland, they race over jumps at Clonmel and on the flat at Fairyhouse.
Harry Skelton is currently in sole position on the jump jockeys championship he has had a great start so far with 25 wins to his name. He is currently 11 in front of Henry Brooke who is currently in second and Sean Bowen at third just one behind Henry. Last years champion jockey Harry Cobden is sitting at fourth place at the moment with the whole season ahead left the play for.
Jockey David England retired on his last mount at Cartmel last week, he said the lack of opportunities and his age was his reason behind retiring. He had partnered 160 winners in Britain and his last winner was on Boxing Day in 2022. He used to work for Olly Murphy in the past who had helped him out a lot but he has said it has become a lot harder now. He has mentioned he has been in contact with Tom Ellis and the pair plan to link up for the future.
Yesterday was trainer Mark Bradstock's memorial service which was held in Letcombe Bassett near Wantage. The Bradstocks stable star Coneygree was present at the service also and was at the front of the congregation. Many familiar racing faces were present to pay their respects including the likes of Nicky Henderson, Henrietta Knight and Coneygree's jockey Nico De Boinville.
