Today we have a quiet day with no runners but there is action across both codes as Southwell has a jumps meeting and Salisbury hosts its fourth race day of the season. There is attention in the 4:07pm at Salisbury for Drumstick, trained by Andrew Balding, makes his second start for the King and Queen. Wetherby stages an evening meeting on the flat.
Yesterday, we had just the one runner with Rebel Angel who ran at Windsor last night, she ran better than her finishing position suggests, she was behind a wall of horses and she wasn't in a great position and didn't have much room for anywhere to go, but she galloped all the way to the line.
There will be no Royal Ascot come back from Frankie Dettori next week, after he was ruled out of the meeting where he has starred for so many years; he would also not take part in any of the five-day television coverage either. He has mentioned he will be returning to Britain for the wedding of his daughter Ella and will be planning to go to Royal Ascot to offer some Royal Enclosure hospitality. It will be strange to watch, especially as Frankie has made the meeting his own for so many years.
Over in Ireland, Shark Hanlon looks to set his stable star Hewick on the American Grand National again, it’s a race the horse won in 2022 and he’s looking to go back for it again in October. Hewick was supposed to carry top weight in this year’s Randox Grand National but the ground scuppered those plans and he ran in the Liverpool hurdle instead. The trainer has said that on a bit of nice ground, he would love to have a crack at the National with him.
Sky Sports Racing presenter Robert Cooper announced on Monday he will be retiring at the end of next month, he's due to have his final shift at Yarmouth on 30th July. He's had a fantastic career over the last 28 years and is set to still go racing as a hobby so he won't ever be too far away i'm sure!
Can a Kangaroo jump higher than the Empire State Building?
Of course! The Empire State Building can't jump!
