A Steady Wednesday!

We are back in action racing tomorrow, so it is another quiet day for the stable today. Jumps action comes from Fontwell, while the flat action is at Yarmouth, Kempton and Hamilton. In Ireland, they race on the flat at Limerick. There is some interest for the 5:40pm at Kempton, as half-sister to Enable runs for the John and Thady Gosden team.

Showers are on the forecast for the end of the week and into the start of next week, which could affect the Royal Ascot going, which was described as good, good to firm in places on Monday afternoon. The going for the opening day at Royal Ascot has been good or softer for three of the last five seasons. It was good to firm in 2021 and 2022.

A schoolteacher celebrated a 125-1 winner at Pontefract on Monday evening when Lord Warburton won, especially as she had a lifelong ambition to own a Market Rasen winner being her closest jumps track and missed out on her other horse The Electrician, winning there by 20 lengths last month! Lord Warburton had lost his form a little over jumps, so they switched to the flat for one last try and it certainly paid off - so she must have been thrilled to have been able to have witnessed this winner in person even if it wasn't local!  

Willie Mullins has said winning the Ascot Gold Cup would be huge for his achievements as he bids to try and win it for the first time. He's set to have a few runners across the meeting and is due to be doubly represented in the Gold Cup on Thursday week as Absurde could join stablemate Vauban in the £650,000 event.    

In the football, England Manager Gareth Southgate says the Euros 2024 could be his last chance to win a trophy with England. He has been in charge since 2016 and his contract is due to expire in December, but the FA are keen for him to remain as manager for the next World Cup in 2026 in USA, Canada and Mexico.
