We have one runner today at Market Rasen, the only jumps meeting of the day, Chemical Warfare. He runs in division two of the 2m4f handicap hurdle, the final race on the card at 5.10pm and Jack Tudor rides. This is just his third start for us and he was unlucky last time at Worcester, falling at the final fence when holding every chance. He is yet to win over hurdles in his career but is much lower in the handicap as a result. Off a light weight this afternoon, and getting a lot of weight from the favourite I would like to think he has a very good chance.
We move onto day four of the Royal Ascot meeting and there are two Group 1 races on the card, the Commonwealth Cup over 6F at 3.05pm and the Coronation Stakes over 1 miles at 3.45pm. 14 runners go to post for the Commonwealth Cup, it looks an open race but the favourite is the Kevin Ryan trained Inisherin but I quite fancy the chances of the Ralph Beckett trained and Rossa Ryan ridden Starlust. This team were on the winner’s board at Ascot yesterday and this three year old has the highest rating in the line-up and sports first time blinkers. Opera Singer is favourite for the Coronation Stakes for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore and I think this is the one they all have to beat.
As well as the two meetings mentioned, there is flat action at Redcar, Goodwood and Newmarket. In Ireland they have a flat card at Down Royal.
Yesterday, Kyprios once again showed his class to win the Ascot Gold Cup for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. He is not flashy, more workmanlike but there is nothing wrong with that when you get the job done! He just kept grinding it out in a great battle up the straight from Trawlerman. It was another double for jockey Ryan Moore and the Ballydoyle team and they are leading the way for the week.
Last night in the football both games in Group C ended in 1-1 draws, with Slovenia and Serbia finishing level as did England against Denmark. England took the lead against the Danes through Harry Kane and things looked promising but it truth England were rather lacklustre in their performance and failed to secure a place in the last 16. We need to improve dramatically if we are to have any chance of winning the competition. Spain beat Italy 1-0 in the evening match of Group B.
There are another three Group games today with Slovakia against the Ukraine at 2pm, Poland against Austria and 5pm and the feature games of the day is the Netherlands against France at 8pm.
In the cricket, England at in World Cup T20 action against South Africa at 3.30pm while a little closer to home, Somerset play Gloucestershire away in the Vitality Blast, 6.30pm start.
Never wear headphones while vacuuming.
I just finished the whole house and realised I forgot to plug it in!
Happy Friday!
