Hammer Dan wins at Stratford!
The weekend was a busy one with a variety of sporting action to watch. We headed to Stratford yesterday afternoon with Hammer Dan, who followed up his Newton Abbot success to become our 10th winner for the season under a great ride from Jack Tudor.
On Saturday, we had Oceanline who run at Ascot, it was a very competitive race in the end and he ran well to finish 5th and there will be plenty of other days out for him.
We also had a runner over in France, Heure De Gloire. She ran really well finishing third, she has run well when winning before over in France so it was nice to see her run well again Saturday, who appreciated the softer ground. she arrived all safe and sound home yesterday morning.
Today we head to Newton Abbot should it go ahead as they are due to inspect at 11am due to yellow weather warning issued today. Should it go ahead, we have Granny Smith in the 2:30pm Maiden Hurdle over 2miles 2 1/2f with Jack Tudor on board. She's run in a couple of bumpers for us and turns to hurdling today which I think she will prefer.
We also have Back In The Bay running in the 5:55pm Mares' Bumper with Jack Tudor on board. She ran a nice race last time out at Worcester on stable debut to finish fourth and I think she could go well again today.
Other than Newton Abbot who will be the only jumps card today should it go ahead, there is racing at Ayr, Windsor and Wolverhampton. In Ireland, they race over both codes and there is jumps at Downpatrick and on the flat they race at Killarney.
The Wimbledon action came to an end on Sunday and Carlos Alcaraz powered to victory over Novak Djokovic to retain his men's singles title. Although the players made this a repeat of last year's final it failed to line up to the five-set thriller of 12 months ago, as Djokovic appeared mostly helpless against Alcaraz.
In the Football last night England's quest to end 58 years of pain and disappointment ended in failure as they lost to Spain 2-1. Harry Kane seemed out of sorts again and was substituted on the hour. Spain have been the most consistent throughout the tournament and the better team on the night certainly did win and England did well to get to the final. There is talk about whether Gareth Southgate stays in charge for the next World Cup, but this could be one too many disappointments for the England manager.
