Walk Of The Roses runs today!
We had our first ever runner at Beverley yesterday with Coltor. He ran well to finish 3rd, the ground did go a little too soft for what his preference is and he was a little keen to begin with which wouldn't have helped in softer conditions. He's talented on his day and he has some good form over both codes.
Today we look to head to Uttoxeter for a busy day with four runners. Astro Babe runs in the first division of the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at 2:10pm with Jack Tudor in the saddle. She is making her stable debut today and has run in a couple of maiden hurdles already finishing placed. She’s settled in well to life at Pond House and she returns from a break, but it’ll be interesting to see how she gets on today.
In the second division of the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle, we have Walk Of The Roses at 2:40pm with Jack Tudor on board. She ran well enough on her second start over hurdles and she’s been such a consistent mare in all of her runs so far. She has finished second on soft ground but hopefully the ground won't be an issue as it looks to have dried up a little there overnight.
We have Via Dante who runs next in the 3:40pm Novices’ Handicap Chase over 3miles 2f with Jack Tudor on board. He is a bit of a character this horse, but he made a step in the right direction last time out in April when finishing second, so providing he goes on this form, he should run well. The ground could be an issue for him if it does go too soft.
Only Fools is our last runner of the afternoon in the 5:15pm Handicap Hurdle over 2miles 4f with Jack Tudor riding. She is an admirably consistent mare, winning well at Newton Abbot last time out and she will appreciate any rain that has fallen.
Uttoxeter is the only jumps meeting today and the flat meetings are at Thirsk, Bath, Yarmouth and Ffos Las. In Ireland, flat action continues in Killarney.
Swinton Hurdle winner Pickanumber is set to have his first start since moving to America in the Grade 1 Handicap Hurdle at 6:10pm at Saratoga after a private sale was prompted by his 15-length win in May. Previous trainer Olly Murphy said he fits the profile of a horse who could race for good money in America for his new owners.
Yesterday, Gareth Southgate announced he will be leaving his role as England manager. The decision came shortly after England arrived back from the Euro's when losing to Spain in the final on Sunday. He leaves with a better record than anyone since 1966 World Cup Winner Sir Alf Ramsey and England's consistent appearances in the latter stages of major tournaments was a sharp contract to previous managers.
Did you hear about the carrot detective?
He always got to the root of every case!
Happy Wednesday!
