It is a busy Friday on the racing front with five flat meetings, Thirsk, Musselburgh and Brighton this afternoon and Newmarket and Haydock this evening.  In Ireland they have two evening fixtures, a jumps card at Wexford and a flat card at Tipperary.

There has been quite a lot in the racing news this week about jockey Kieran Shoemark, a lot of unfair criticism in my opinion as I think he is a very good jockey.  He will however be replaced on Inspiral this Sunday who runs in France at Deauville by Ryan Moore.  Kieran has ridden her in her homework and her two disappointing racecourse appearances this season but she is a six-time Group 1 winner and connections will be hoping she can bounce back to form this weekend.  She has won this particular Group 1 race for the last two years and is bidding to be the first horse to win this race three times.  Frankie Dettori had ridden her all her career bar this season so it will be interesting to see if Ryan Moore can work is magic or maybe she is simply not in the same form?!  We shall see!

In yesterday’s Olympic action, Great Britain won our 13th Gold medal courtesy of Ellie Aldridge winning the Kite final – not something I know anything about!  Katarina Johnson-Thompson made a great start in the Heptathalon and was leading the way after four events events, the 10mm hurdles and high jump, shot putt and 200m.  She looks in great form and hopefully she can do as well again today and bring home a medal.  Great Britain currently sit third in the medals table having won 13 Golds, 17 Silvers and 21 Bronze.  The USA head the table with 30 Gold medal, closely followed by China on 29.  We are not far behind Australia and France and it has been a joy to watch all of the different sports, I shall be sad when it is all over!
