We have our first runner for several days today, Rebel Angel runs on the flat at Leicester. She runs in the 3.30pm handicap over 1m4f and Cieran Fallon rides. There are 12 runners and it looks competitive enough for the grade with the three year olds getting the nice weight allowance but most are quite exposed. We are 14/1 in the betting and I think that represents excellent each way value.
She will appreciate the return to 1m4f today after running well and better than the finishing positions suggests over 1m2f last time at Chepstow. Cieran Fallon rides for the first time and he has been lucky in the past for us for these owners at this track so finges crossed he can work his magic once again! She is a multiple winner and the handicapper has now given her some help. The track will suit and she is versatile ground wise so I hope she won’t be too far away.
There are just the two flat meetings today in Britain at Leicester and Ripon. The big flat racing of the day come from France at Deauville while in Ireland they have a jumps card Downpatrick. The biggest race of the day at Deauville is the Group 1 Prix du Haras Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Maroid (easy for you to say!) stakes over 1 mile at 3.04pm. There is nearly half a million pounds on offer for the winner and there are plenty of British trained horses in the eight runner line up. All the talk this week has been about Inspiral and her jockey. She is looking for her third in the race and has Ryan Moore in the saddle today but has not been firing on all cylinders so far this season. Quddwah for the Crisford team and Charyn for the Roger Varian team have good chances and it looks set to be a cracking contest.
We have reached the final day of the Olympics and I am a little sad about that as I have really enjoyed watching all the different sports over the past two weeks. There are still a few medals ups for grabs today and the women’s marathon is the final athletics event taking place this morning. Other sports you can watch today include the track cycling, wrestling, water polo, handball, basketball and modern pentathlon all before the closing ceremony at 8pm this evening. I think it has been a brilliant games and there have been so many highlights. I went to the London Olympics in 2012, maybe I will have to try to go to Los Angeles in 2028! My attention will turn back to other sports now, there is cricket Hundred action today and the football season is nearly back, the charity shield having taken place at Wembley yesterday.
So I had to go to the hospital today.
I told the doctor, “I’ve been bitten by a wolf”.
The doctor asked me, “where?”
I said: “No, just and ordinary one!”
Have a lovely Sunday.
