We start the new week with three flat meetings in Britain and a jumps card at Ballinrobe in Ireland. Racing comes from Ayr and Kempton this afternoon while action is from Windsor this evening.  No runners for the stable but the first jumps meeting since the mini break takes place this coming Saturday at Market Rasen, for which entries are made today.

Rebel Angel ran okay at Leicester yesterday to be fifth. They went a good gallop from the off and we ended up in rear and a little outpaced early. She responded for jockey Cieran Fallon‘s urgings and passed rivals all the way up the straight but could never get to land a proper blow at the leaders.  He felt she handled the ground but probably would’ve preferred a bit more cut. She may have a little break now as she has been on the go long time.

Hayley Turner won the silver saddle for leading rider at the Shergar cup meeting at Ascot on Saturday. This is the third time she has won the prize and is now the leading jockey in the competitions history. She tied the top on 35 points on Saturday but won because she had two winners on the day.  She was going to celebrate by staying for the Sugababes concert after racing!  The ladies were the winners once again of the team event.

In France yesterday at Deauville, Charyn was the impressive winner of the Group One race on the card while Inspiral did not come out of the stalls very well but ran okay to be third. She looks to retain all her ability but has perhaps got her own ideas about the game at the moment!

The Olympics are all over and Great Britain won their final two medals in Sunday’s action. There was another bronze medal in the velodrome for Emma Finucane, her third medal of the games and the final medal for the team came in the weightlifting with Emily Campbell also winning a bronze. Great Britain finished seventh in the medals table with 14 golds and we surpassed the total number of medals won in Tokyo with 65 gold, silver and bronze medal.  This total also matches the total of our home games in London in 2012.

I watched some of the closing ceremony last night and the Olympic flame now passes from France to LA for 2028. They’re going to be a few changes in sports for that games which I am not sure about, boxing is set to be removed well with the addition of, baseball and softball and flag football (a version of noncontact American football I’m told!) – It feels very Americanized to me!

My focus will now switch to football with a new season fast approaching. Wayne Rooney got didn’t get off to the best start as new manager of Plymouth Argyle, who suffered a 4-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday!

In the hundred cricket competition Birmingham Phoenix play Trent Rockets this evening.

My kids put together a PowerPoint presentation of why we should go to the waterpark… it had several slides!

Happy Monday!
