It is a lovely start to the day here at Pond House and it busy racing day today with five flat meetings at Epsom, Wolverhampton, Newbury, Thirsk and Newmarket. In Ireland they have a flat card at Cork and jumping action at Tramore. The stable does not have any runners.
Champion Boxer Tyson Fury will be racing at Newmarket today as an owner to watch his first horse, who he owns in partnership run. The aptly named Big Gyspy King makes his debut in the 5.45pm race, trained by Darryll Holland he will be ridden by jockey Neil Callan. It looks a tough race and the filly’s trainer has warned she may need her race today and will develop into a nice three year old. It will be interesting to see how she gets on.
Tyson Fury is next due back in the Boxing ring on 21st December, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is set for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk to crown the undisputed heavyweight champion after he lost their last fight on a split decision to the Ukranian.
Many congratulations to trainer Brian Rothwell who had a winner yesterday, ending a six-year drought. Opal Storm ended the 228 runner losing sequence to win the 5F handicap. We all know it is a winner driven business so not to had one for that long must have been so difficult. Horses can run well and be placed but at the end of the day, it is not the same as a winner. Fingers crossed this starts a new winning run for the Yorkshire based trainer.
In other sporting news, Premier League football action returns this evening and the first match kicks off at 8pm between my team, Manchester United and Fulham. There is a lot of talk about injuries already for Manchester United and a dis-jointed pre-season but fingers crossed they can get off to a good start.
I am taking by box of wine back and filing a complaint.
It said once opened it would last six weeks, but it was gone after three hours!
Happy Friday!
