There is jumps racing today at Cartmel but the stable does not have any runners. We were considering a trip up North but they have had plenty of rain and the ground is too soft for the horses we were considering sending there. York once again takes centre stage on the flat but there if a good card at Goodwood this afternoon as well.
They are race on the flat today at Newmarket and this evening at Windsor and Redcar. In Ireland, they have a jumps fixture at Killarney and race on the flat at the Curragh. The Ebor takes centre stage at York at 3.35pm, it is a 1m6f and while the Aidan O’Brien has the favourite in Queenstown and they have had a great week, I am going to go for the Willie Mullins trained runners in this, Hipop De Loire. Ridden by Colin Keane there has been good support for this seven year old and he is now 7/1 second best in the market. The Closutton team had a nice winner at the track yesterday with Vauban winning the Lonsdale Cup. He has now been cut to 10/1 for the Melbourne Cup.
Yesterday, I thought the Nunthorpe would be a match between Big Evs and Asfoora but both ended up being disappointing and it was left to Bradsell and Hollie Doyle to claim the prize.
Yesterday it was the funeral of former headman at Pond House, Dennis Dummett, who passed away at the end of July aged 87. He was an integral part of them team when Martin was in charge and remained in the yard after he retired in a farm manager role until very recently. It was a lovely service at Culmstock church and was attended by lots of current and former members of staff. Everyone was in early to get the work done and the service was followed by a celebration of his life at the Cleve hotel in Wellington. Past staff members included trainers Owen Burrows and Tom Dascombe as well as former trainer and jockey Len Lungo. Tom Scudamore and Rodi Greene were past jockeys present and I thought it was a fitting send off.
There are seven Premiership football matches today. Manchester United travel to Brighton for the lunchtime kick off at 12.30pm while Aston Villa are at home to Arsenal for the tea-time slot at 5.30pm.
England made 358 all out in their first innings against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford. Sri Lanka did not make a great start in their second innings with the bat but do have a slight lead ahead of Day Four.
I saw two huge black birds in my garden this morning and they were stuck together.
Turns out they were Velcrows!
Have a good day!
