A View of our Wexford Sand Gallop from Above!
We were due to have four runners at Newton Abbot on Monday afternoon but unfortunately it was abandoned on Sunday evening due to waterlogging. To be honest, I was not surprised, we were not that hopeful on declaration day with the ground already heavy and the threat of 20-30mm of rain due at the track throughout Sunday, things did not look that promising! We had 17mm of rain fall at Pond House yesterday and conditions are not that good here but other places are worse by the sound of things! I feel a little sorry for jockey Gearoid Harney. He was due to be riding Kintaro today who had 10st 2lb minus his six pound claim. Gearoid is very tall so god knows how he can ride at this weight anyway but he tells me he would have been fine having not eaten much for a few days - at least he could have some tea last night after it was called off!
Newton Abbot is not the only meeting to have fallen victim to the weather today. Windsor have also abandoned their meeting due to waterlogging. We do still have two flat cards to keep us entertained on the last day of September, with racing at Hamilton and on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. In Ireland they have action on the flat at Down Royal and jumping from Roscommon.
It was a good day for the Ballydoyle team at the Curragh yesterday with fours winners and they won the Irish Cesraewitch with The Euphrates. The Cesarewitch at Newmarket is just under two weeks away (Sat 12th October) and we have Bashful Boy entered. He still needs a few to come out to get into the race, but that could happen with several horses, especially the Irish trained ones being entered in other races around that date already. Bashful Boy has not been in quite the same form this summer as last when he finished fourth in the race at a big price but he ran okay in is one flat start this time around and I wouldn't be surprised that if he gets in the race he were to put up another bold display.
I don't really want to talk about football today. Manchester United were terrible in losing 3-0 at home to Spurs yesterday while Ipswich got a well earned point at home against Aston Villa. There were wins for Liverpool and Arsenal on Saturday while Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle. Liverpool are at the top of the table while sorry Nan, things don't look good at the bottom for Wolves who have just the one point. Southampton also have just the one point also and are in action this evening against local rivals Bournemouth.
The final cricket One Day International match between England and Australia was cut short by the weather in Bristol yesterday. They played enough overs for the match to count and the Aussies were in a strong position when it was abandoned meaning they won the match and therefore won the series 3-2.
Just saw three people jogging outside and it inspired me to get up and close the blinds! Happy Monday!
