Lady Balko runs in the Surrey National Today

Today we have three runners at Lingfield which includes Lady Balko in the 2.45pm Surrey National.  Our six year old mare has had a terrific season to date, switched to the larger obstacles and although she was below par last time out in a listed event I hope she can bounce back to form this afternoon.  It will be a tough ask off top weight carrying 12st 2lb but when you look back through her last ten runs she has nearly carried this in all but one of her starts.  She is a lovely big mare with a great attitude.  She tries 3m4f for the first time today but she appears like she will just keep galloping all day so fingers crossed she does!  She will like the ground and the track will be fine, it is a competitive race but I don't think we will be too far away come finish.

Missy Mole and River Run Free make up our trio of runners at Lingfield and Jack Tudor is on board all three.  Missy Mole is yet to really sparkle under rules and was very disappointing at Exeter last time having shown promise before this.  Jack thought she didn't like the ground that day and we have taken off the hood.  She is 14/1 in the betting and it would be nice to just see a bit more from her this afternoon.  River Run Free makes his chasing and handicap debut in the 3.48pm handicap chase over 2m4f.  He has not shown a great deal in novice hurdles so far but he was placed in an Irish point to point and we hope the switch to fences and the addition of a tongue strap can bring about some necessary improvement.

There is also jumps racing at Catterick today while there is all-weather action at Newcastle and Southwell.  On the eve of the Dublin Racing Festival in Ireland they just have one flat meeting this evening at Dundalk.

Manchester United, Spurs and Rangers all won in their Europa League football matches last night and they all qualify for the last 16 of the competition.  I am looking forward to the Guinness Six Nations Rugby starting this evening and Wales take on France at 8.15pm in Paris.

A bus station is where a bus stops.  A train station is where a train stops.

On my desk, I have a work station.

Happy Friday!
