There are two jumps meetings to kick off the new week at Carlisle and Southwell today but the stable does not have any runners. It is a busy day for jockey Jack Tudor however as he has five rides at Southwell. Prince Cleni in the 1.40pm looks to be his best chance of a winner and is 6/4 in the betting. There is one meeting on the flat at Wolverhampton and in Ireland they have a jumps card at Punchestown.
It was a great weekend of sport and where do we start! Eden Du Houx ran okay at Sandown, he made a crucial mistake down the far side which cost him valuable momentum and his rivals just got away for him really and he was never able to get back to them. Jack said he kept galloping all the way to the line but the ground was very hard work and it was hard to make up ground. King Turgeon was very disappointing at Musselburgh on Sunday. He was beaten from a very early stage and the run was simply too bad to be true. Whether it came a little too soon after his race at Wincanton or whether he didn't like travelling that far from home and staying away, if only they could talk! The good thing is that Jack looked after him and pulled him up, he is absolutely fine, came home and has eaten all his food and is shouting for more this morning. We can put a line through this run, freshen him up and I am sure he can bounce back next time.
It was a great weekend of action at Leopardstown and it was lovely to see Galopin Des champs win the Irish Gold Cup on Saturday. He truly is one of the best we have ever seen and I cannot see him getting beaten the Cheltenham Gold Cup next month. Yesterday there was a horrible looking fall for Lossiemouth in the Irish Champion hurdle which allowed State Man to come home in his own time. I do hope she is okay and these falls can take some getting over but I hope she turns up at Cheltenham in March. There were plenty of impressive winners for the Willie Mullins team and it seems everyone who made the trip to the Dublin Racing Festival seemed to have a great time according to Social Media!
Ireland beat England in the Six Nations rugby in Dublin on Saturday. I thought England played fairly well but the Irish probably just did enough to deserve the win the match while Scotland won at home against Italy. It was a bad day for Manchester football teams yesterday with Manchester United losing at home 2-0 to Crystal Palace and City losing away to Arsenal 5-1. Spurs were 2-0 winners away at Brentford. There is one Premiership football match this evening with Chelsea at home to West Ham, 8pm kick off.
Well done to Rory McIlroy who won for the 27th time on the PGA tour by winning at Pebble Beach yesterday. He held of a late challenge from Shane Lowry to win with a score of -21, a great start to 2025 for the Northern Irish man.
My son made the mistake of telling me I was being overdramatic so I changes the WiFi password.
We'll see who's overdramatic in about 5 minutes!
Happy Monday!
