As the week slowly looks towards Aintree later on this week, the racing action comes from Wincanton and Newcastle with the two jumps fixtures in Britain. It's a quiet day for the flat action as it's only an evening card coming from Wolverhampton on the all-weather. No runners for the stable and there is no racing in Ireland today.
It was a quiet weekend for the stable with only the one runner which came on Saturday, Jaipaletemps. He ran well for a long way and jumped well throughout, probably the best he's ever jumped but he just weakened on the run in.
The dry weather continues and reflected a lot on the field sizes at Ascot, with one race being abandoned due to three only being declared. The ground was described as good, good to firm in places and there were a total of 34 runners on the card which I can imagine left the racecourse feeling quiet!
The Grand National field will become a little clearer when the confirmations will be revealed at midday - so keep an eye on those! The new favourite of the race is Stumptown and connections feel he has everything you need in a Grand National winner.
In other sporting fixtures over the weekend, the FA Cup Quarter-finals took place with Fulham 0-3 Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove 0-0 Nottingham Forest, Preston 0-3 Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester City. The Women's Six Nations continued with France 38-15 Scotland and England striking to victory against Wales 67-12. On Sunday, it was Irelands turn for victory as they finished their game with Italy 54-12.
I have a horse called mayo and mayo neighs!
Have a great Monday!
