Bashful Boy runs in the Chester Cup!
It is a busy day full of racing action and it is the last day for Chester’s May Festival with Ascot, Nottingham and Ripon backing up the flat cards. The jumps action comes from Market Rasen this afternoon and Hereford tonight. Over in Ireland, they are racing over both codes with jumping at Downpatrick and a flat card at Ballinrobe.
We switch to the flat today for a runner at Chester! Bashful Boy runs in the 3:05pm Chester Cup over 2miles 2½f with Aidan Brookes riding. He makes his reappearance from a winter holiday and made the cut for this race, which was a nice surprise. He was last seen in the Cesarewitch where he ran well to be ninth, not beaten that far at all. This will be very competitive; but he is in good form and is now below his winning mark, so hopefully he can put in a big run!
The Chester Cup is the showpiece of this week’s May Fesitval and no favourite has won in the last decade, but current favourite East India Dock looks to continue the trend of successful dual-purpose runners after recent wins by Metier and Zoffee.
Hewick looks to set off his travels again next week in a bid to build on last year’s runner-up effort in the French Champion Hurdle – which may not be the only international plans for him. Shark Hanlon also has his eye on a return to the US in autumn to target the American Grand National, which he landed in style in 2022.
How do you tell the difference between a bull and a cow?
It's either one or the udder!
Happy Friday!
