Laflammedeglorie fared best of our runners at Ffos Las yesterday afternoon, finishing runner-up in the closing bumper.  This former point-to-pointer looks like he will need a stiffer test of stamina and some fences in front of him in time but he performed creditably here and I am sure that David will be placing him to advantage before long.  This afternoon we have three runners at Lingfield - Le Chasse Spleen (pictured above), Bathwick Man and HMS Intrepid, while Effervesce runs on the all-weather at Southwell.  Our Lingfield runners will be partnered by Tom Scudamore, while Effervesce will be ridden by Dane O'Neill on the flat.

Yesterday was certainly a day to remember for Nicky Henderson who saddled seven winners (from seven runners) across three meetings.  I remember Martin having six winners from six runners back in 1989, and he also had nine winners in a day, but the record for most winners in a day is still held by Michael Dickinson with twelve back in 1982 (although he did have nine losers as well!).  That is a record that I think will stand forever, a bit like Frankie Dettori going through the card with his "Magnificent Seven" at Ascot in 1996.

Many happy returns to former rugby player turned pundit Stuart Barnes who is 49 today, so as you can see he is not old enough to be my father by a couple of years!  Stuart has had horses with us for many years and usually drops into our marquee at the Cheltenham Festival to give me some rugby bets to avoid!  Only joking Stuart - happy birthday!

I was pleased to see Spurs complete my football double last night.  I thought that Harry Redknapp played well and he reckons that if his team keep playing this well, they could win the league so we know he is not quite 100%!...Spurs, win the league - do me a favour!  A friend of mine offered me evens the other day about Manchester City to win the Premiership (don't forget, they have a five point head start!) - I almost feel bad about the prospect of taking his money off him, actually on second thoughts I dont't!
