We have reached the final day of Royal Ascot 2025 and what a week it has been. Willie Mullins and Ryan Moore struck yesterday with the horse that finished fourth in the County hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, Ethical Diamond who was impressive in winning the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes. There were seven different winning trainers and seven different winning jockeys across the card and it was nice to see everyone getting in on the action.
Today’s Royal meeting starts with the Chesham Stakes over 7 furlongs at 2.30pm and could this be the first winner of the week for Charlie Appleby who trainers the favourite, Treanmor with William Buick riding. The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes follows and it could be a quick double for the trainer who also has the favourite in this in the shape of Rebel’s Romance but this looks a fairly open contest. At 3.40pm we have the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, Group 1 over 6 furlongs and if you go by the betting this race could be won by the French horse Lazzat, who is the mount of James Doyle. There is no clear cut favourite in the Jersey Stakes while things do not look any easier for the Wokingham handicap over 6 furlongs at 5pm. The same can be said for the Golden Gates Stakes as well while there is a short priced favourite in the last race, the Queen Alexandra Stakes, run over 2m5f it is just about the longest race of the week. Sober heads the betting for Willie Mullins and Ryan Moore and it does look like they will take all the beating in the final race of the meeting.
There is plenty of racing away from Royal Ascot as well today with flat cards at Newmarket, Redcar, Ayr, Haydock and Lingfield. There is a jumps meeting at Bangor but the stable does not have any runners. In Ireland, they have two flat fixtures at Down Royal and Limerick.
India made a great start in the cricket Test match against England yesterday, batting first the have reached a good score with not many wickets lost by the end of play. Somerset were comfortable winners away to Glamorgan in the Vitality Blast.
In the Queens Tennis, Brit Jacob Fearnley lost his quarterfinal match against Jiri Lehecka but Jack Draper is through to the semi-finals after beating Brandon Nakashima. Semi-final action takes place today and Carlos Alcaraz is also in action in the other semi-final.
Fun fact: “Sugar” is the only word in the English language where “su-“ makes a “sh” sound.
At least, I’m pretty sure that’s correct!
Have a great Saturday!
