Royal Ascot maybe all over for another year but there is still some racing to keep us entertained today.  There are two flat meetings at Pontefract and Ffos Las and there is also jumping action up at Hexham but the stable does not have any runner.  It is a rare blank racing day in Ireland.

On Friday, it was sad to hear of the passing of multiple Group 1 and Classic trainer Kevin Prendergast who passed away just two weeks before his 93rd birthday.  He saddled more than 2000 winners in a career spanning more than 60 years, training from his yard on the Curragh. Lots of trainers were paying their tributes at Royal Ascot which showed how well regarded he was.

Ethical Diamond gave Willie Mullins his first Royal Ascot winner this year on Friday, his eleventh in total and they are now thinking of the Melbourne Cup for their five year old.  He will have a little break before heading to York and hopefully they can get him qualified for a trip down under.

Today we have the tennis final at Queens, some FIFA Club World Cup action and golf from the Travelers Championship in Connecticut to keep us entertained.  Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy are in contention out there but so is World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler and he could be very hard to beat.

I was out with my young daughter and ran into a friend who I had not seen for years.

“This is Beth” I said introducing my child.

“And what is Beth short for?” he asked.

“Because she is only three I replied!”
