The good racing action continues thick and fast this week and we have more top class races to look forward to today at Goodwood and Galway.  Ryan Moore won both the opening Group contests on yesterdays Goodwood card and it was a dead heat for the first of those as he shared the spoils with Rossa Ryan.  There was an upset in the feature race of the day as Field of Gold did not run his race and the Group 1 was won by Juddmontes second string, Qirat at 150/1 who beat Rosallion by a neck.  There seemed a bit of an eerie silence at the track with this result but that is what can happen in horse racing sometimes and it is not like Qirat is without ability, he was just not expected to be good enough for this race!  Well done to jockey Richard Kingscote who is now off to ride in Japan for a while.

The second race at Goodwood today is Group action at 1.55pm and it looks a fairly open race while the 2.30pm Group 3 race over 1m4f has a short priced favourite in Merchant for the William Haggas and Tom Marquand team.  Tom was in winning form at the track yesterday and I think this could be another for him.  The feature Group 1 race on the card is the Nassau Stakes at 3.05pm and I find it hard to oppose the favourite, Whirl.  She was beaten into a close second in the Epsom Oaks by stablemate Minnie Hauk but won the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh last time, that form has been franked and she is a really likeable high class filly.  I think this prize will be going to the Aidan O'Brien, Ryan Moore and Ballydoyle team.

For the first time this week the racing at Galway is an afternoon fixture with the first race off at 2.10pm.  The feature Galway hurdle is at 4.30pm and it is another cracking competitive big field handicap.  Gordon Elliott won the Plate yesterday, probably not with his main hope and it could be a a similar story today with several of the top Irish trainers having more than one runner.  Puturhandstogether is favourite for Joseph O'Brien but I was going to go for Casheldale Lad each way at about 14/1.

There are three other flat meetings today at Wolverhampton, Nottingham and Epsom.  The stable does not have any runners.

The final cricket test match between England and India gets underway this morning at 11am at the Oval.  England will be without captain Ben Stokes through injury as they try to secure their first test series win against India since 2018.  Ollie Pope will captain the home team.
