The stable's Water Garden was an easy eighteen length winner at Wincanton yesterday under Timmy Murphy.  His task was made considerably easier when Carrickmines and Cool Steel both departed at the second last leaving us clear.  I still think that Water Garden would have won even his rivals had stood up, but you can never be sure in racing.  Anyway, Water Garden looks to be a nice prospect and I wouldn't be surprised to see him win again.  Our other runner at Wincanton, Arab League also performed creditably, sticking on well in fourth place and he shaped as though he could do with more of a test of stamina.

We have three runners at Exeter this afternoon and it looks like being a competitive day's action at the Devon track.  Notus de la Tour heads the betting for the very competitive novices' chase in which he has to concede 8lbs to very decent rivals Walkon and Zaynar.  Shaking Hands takes part in the four mile handicap chase in which an abudance of stamina will most definitely be required, while Close House who was runner-up in a very competitive bumper at Doncaster on his only start for us, makes his hurdling debut.

There is also a very competitive card at Sandown, including the novices' hurdle at 1.55pm which features exciting recruits Fingal Bay, Simonsig and Sizing Symphony...it looks like being another afternoon in front of the television for me!

Whoever takes over the job of Sunderland manager (and let's be honest about it, we are talking about Martin O'Neill) will need to sign a striker - and I don't mean those people that didn't want to go to work on Wednesday!  Sunderland sold match winner Darren Bent and never replaced him, so how did they expect to score goals?!  It looks like a tall order to get the team competitive again and I'm not sure that it is a job that I would want...although having said that, you get paid good money and even if you are lousy at your job, you get a nice pay off before doing the same at another club - it's easy being a football manager!

Talking of easy careers - what a life being a professional golfer!  While we are here preparing for the weather to finally turn, the pro's are either in China playing for millions, or like Darren Clarke, playing in Sun City South Africa.  I hope Darren has taken plenty of sun cream with him - he is a big fella, so will probably need a couple of bottles!

Now that I have upset a few more professional sportsmen, I will sign off...
