We start the new week with one jumps meeting today at Fontwell and three flat cards at Leicester, Hamilton and Wolverhampton. In Ireland, we have day two of he Listowel Festival and also a flat fixture at Fairyhouse. The stable does not have any runners. Jack Tudor has one ride at Fontwell this afternoon and I thought he looks to have a good chance of riding a winner. Faded Fantasy is one of three runners for trainer Christian Williams in the race which looks very competitive but, Jack's horse has been in great form of late over hurdles and returns to the larger obstacles off a 12 pound lower mark and should have a good chance.
Yesterday, Listowel was an all jumps card, today it is an all flat affair. There are plenty of runners in all the races and finding winners maybe tough!
Bashful Boy ran well enough at Newmarket on Saturday to finish fifth in the Cesarewitch trial. He cruised into contention again with just under 4 furlongs to go and I thought we were certain to be placed again but he just got over taken in the closing stages. Perhaps the visor is making him travel too strongly in the early part of the race and he pays for his exertions late on. He has come out of the race absolutely bouncing and he deserves to win a race very soon.
On Saturday, trainer Richard Spencer has a great day in winning both the Ayr Gold up and the the Silver Cup as well. An interesting fact for you all, Richard Spencer actually rode for David in a race. He rode Milord Lescribaa to be second in the Royal Artillary Gold Cup at Sandown in 2008!
Well done to Ashley Dascombe, a recent recruit to the Pond House workforce who rode a winner in New Zealand over the weekend. He spent some time out there before joining us last month but got invited back for this important meeting and we of course said he should seize the opportunity. While not the 'big race' as such he had several rides in his latest short stint and it was great for him to grab another success. Ashley returns to work here later in the week ad is looking forward to the winter ahead in the point to point field and hopefully in amateur races under rules.
Yesterday, all three Premiership football matches were draws, including between Arsenal and Manchester City. On Saturday, Manchester United and Liverpool were winners. Liverpool are unbeaten and already have a five point lead at the top of the table at this very early stage.
The England women's rugby team beat France on Saturday to reach the final and will play Canada at the weekend. The England men's cricketers beat Ireland in a Twenty 20 match in Dublin yesterday.
What has one eye but can't see?
Yesterday's answer: Your name (It belongs to you, but other people use it more than you do. What is it?)
Happy Monday!
