Best Night Runs at Newton Abbot Today
We start the new week with one runner at Newton Abbot, Best Night. She runs in the 3.06pm novices hurdle over 2m1f and Jack Tudor rides. She was a recent course and distance winner on stable and hurdling debut just ten day ago and she has come out of that run well and so we have decided to let her take her chance again. She is so straight forward with everything she does and eats well, she really is a pleasure to have in the yard. Jack Pipe gave her a little canter on Saturday morning and says she is in good form so let's hope he is right! It was a mares event that she won last time and she takes on the boys this afternoon with a penalty so things will be tougher but she has a great attitude and I would hope she will go very close and be in the placings at least once again.
It is quite a busy start to the new week for racing and while Newton Abbot is the only jumps card, there is racing on the flat at Hamilton, Brighton and Southwell and in Ireland there is jumping at Roscommon and a flat card at Down Royal.
I have just returned from Ireland and while I didn't get to watch all the live sport I would have liked to over the weekend, what a sporting weekend it was! We won't talk about football, but there were some interesting results and a late win for Arsenal away to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. There was a brilliant, but nail biting win for Europe in the Ryder Cup last night. Europe were in a commanding position ahead of the final singles matches yesterday but the Americans fought back and although it got close and very tense at one point, it was a terrific putt from Shane Lowry to ensure we retained the trophy and a great 1/2 point won by Tyrell Hatton to confirm the victory. It will be some re-match in Ireland at JP's Adare Manor in two years time. Well done to the England women's rugby team who are World Champions after beating Canada in the World Cup final at Twickenham on Saturday in front of a sell out crowd.
Rebel's Romance won at Aqueduct on Saturday evening under Frankie Dettori, the seven year olds 20th career win and eighth at the highest level, what a horse for Godolphin and Charlie Appleby. My selections for the Group 1 races at Newmarket on Saturday were also pretty good, True Love bounced back to form win the Cheveley Park Stakes while the favourite, Wise Approach won the Middle Park Stakes.
Tonight there is just the one Premiership football match. Everton are at home to West Ham at 8pm.
Which is heavier, a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?
Answer: They are a grandfather, father and son (Two fathers and two sons are in a car, yet there are only three people in the car. How?)
Happy Monday!
