Jaipaletemps Winner Again at Ffos Las
It was fantastic at Ffos Las yesterday, despite the cold weather, with Jaipaletemps and Rian Corcoran following up their recent course win with another victory and giving Rian his second winner as a professional jockey. Carrying a seven pound penalty didn't inconvenience our six year old, nor did the step up in trip and despite a stumble at the second last fence he came away to win comfortably in the end. There is a different sort of pressure when you are a short priced favourite and Rian gave him a lovely well judge ride, allowing the pace setters to go clear before gradually reeling them in. Rian said the horse didn't enjoy the ground yesterday which was much drier and holding than when he had won the time before so the wetter the better and we will look for another race in a few weeks time when the rain comes again!
Shot Boii was very disappointing and pulled up yesterday for no obvious reason. I have a feeling he doesn't like Ffos Las much and he is quite a character so maybe we will stay away from there in the future! Allstitchedup ran well enough again and now qualifies for a handicap mark. Jack Tudor thought he didn't enjoy the ground as much with it being sticky and I am sure we won't hang about too long in stepping him up in trip. Our lorry set off on the journey for Hexham but didn't get too far before it had to turn round because it had be abandoned because of snow! From the photos I have seen, it did look very picturesque up there! No Walkover now heads to Chepstow on Friday instead.
Today we have one runner at Wincanton, Mancero who runs in the 2.10pm division one of the handicap hurdle over two miles and Jack Tudor rides. Our three year old has just had the three starts for us since winning in France and looking back his debut second at Hexham to One Horse Town doesn't look too bad now (that one winning at Cheltenham easily on Saturday - his fourth win in a row). He was then very disappointing at Newton Abbot but ran better and took a step back in the right direction at Uttoxeter last time. He needs to build on that again today and he wears cheekpieces which will help, as well the better ground. He gets a nice weight allowances for his age and if he goes as well as he does at home on the gallops you could not rule him out at about 11/1 but I just hope he shows what he can and runs a good race.
There is also jumps racing today at Warwick and there is a particularly interesting novices hurdle at 12.35pm. Baron Noir heads the betting for the Alan King team and he has some very good bumper form in the book, including when just beating Kingston Queen. He makes his hurdlling debut, as does Cristal D'Estruval who is making his rules debut for Harry Derham. This horse just beat No Walkover in and Irish point to point and was then bought for big money at Cheltenham sales. Throw in Bossman Jack for the Skelton team and Locked and Loaded, an easy bumper winner for the Emma Lavelle team and you have a cracking race to look forward to!
