We had a nice winner on the east coast yesterday afternoon when Buddy Bolero won the maiden hurdle by fifteen lengths at Folkestone.  The ground was extremely soft and an abundance of stamina was certainly the order of the day as the runners came home very tired and at wide intervals.  Fortunately this proved to be right up our five year old's street - he clearly stays very well and Tom Scudamore even said that he could turn out to be a National horse one day...I hope he means the Grand National!

We go to Newbury this afternoon with one runner, War Singer who takes part in a very warm looking maiden hurdle.  Our ex-French import won five times from nine starts on the level in France and looks to be a very nice prospect.

A new report that has just been published suggests that betting shops are "a blight on the high streets".  When I first moved to Brixham there were five betting offices in the town - now there are only two (and they are only 10 yards apart!).  I cannot believe that a town as small as Brixham needs two shops (especially in such close proximity) - if there is more than two people in either of them it's a crowd!

Talking of betting shops, my wife was gloating at the weekend after her free WIlliam Hill bet on the X Factor came to fruition with girl band Little Mix.  Now she is not only a self-proclaimed expert on horseracing, but she is also an entertainment expert too!

Chelsea did Manchester United a huge favour on Monday evening by turning over Manchester City.  Having said that, United still face an uphill task to trouble City - they are having a terrible time of it with players out.  Their best defender Vidic is out for the season, and now Darren Fletcher will take an extended break from football due to illness. Anderson and Cleverley are also out - Sir Alex does not have the biggest of squads and it might be that he has to go into the transfer market in January.
