Cynthia Makes her Stable Debut Today

It is more flat action for the team today as Cynthia makes her stable debut on the all-weather at Kempton with Jack Dace on board.   Our four year old runs in the opening contest on the card at 4.28pm, a two mile handicap for apprentice jockeys and they have her as the 2/1 favourite.  She has just had the seven career starts and while yet to win, she has finished second twice, including on her latest start at Nottingham over 1m6f back in the autumn.  We purchased her at the Horses in Training sales at Newmarket after that and she has been pleasing us at home.  She has taken a little while to get the hang of jumping and while that is nearly there we thought this looked a good opportunity to get her out in the colours of the David Pipe Racing Club.  She has run twice on the all-weather before, including at Kempton but she is trying the two mile trip for the first time.  I don't see this being a problem and I would like to think she has a very good chance.

There are due to be two jumps meetings today at Wetherby and Hereford but the former has to pass and inspection this morning and we are still waiting for news on that.  Both Jack Tudor and Rian Corcoran are in action at Hereford today but the stable does not have any runners over jumps.  There are a few interesting runners today, particularly on the Wetherby card which includes an expensive recruit from France for the Dan Skelton yard who makes his British hurdling debut in the juvenile hurdle at 2.51pm.  Merci Mam cost a whopping 520,000 euros at the sales but is not even favourite for the race today.  Favourite for the race is a horse called Klycot and it will be interesting to see how that one fares as our very own Way of Stars has form with that one.  We finished third to him at Exeter and Way of Stars runs at Taunton tomorrow.  We like our juvenile a lot and the winner that day has boosted the form by running very well twice since then.

There is also an all-weather card at Southwell today and in Ireland they race on the flat at Dundalk.

Yesterday, Ocean Heights ran better to be fourth.  It was rather a typical frustrating flat race though!  They go a fast pace, slow it up mid race and then sprint!  This did not really suit us and we were caught a little flat footed before staying on again at the end and we only just missed out on third place.  In a more suitably run race I am sure he can be winning again.

Manchester United grabbed a very late equaliser for draw 1-1 with West Ham last night.  The first half was very boring and I switched channels to watch the men's figure skating!  When I turned back we were 1-0 but at least the game was a little more exciting!  Things are not good for Spurs at the moment and they lost again last night at home to Newcastle.  Bournemouth won at Everton while Chelsea against Leeds finished 2-2.  There are five Premiership matches this evening, four of them kicking off at 7.30pm which includes Manchester City at home to Fulham, while the 8.15pm match see's Liverpool away at Sunderland.  There is an interesting clash in terms of the bottom of the table with Nottingham Forrest at home to Wolves.

Team GB failed to win their first Winter Olympics medal yesterday with our mixed curling pairing losing out to Italy in the bronze medal match.  We have another chance this evening of a medal with the figure skating free dance, we currently sit in fourth place so finger crossed the British pairing have a good routine and can push for a medal.  There is plenty of action from Milano Cortino all throughout the day if you have time to watch any of it!

The England men's cricketers are in action once again today, they play the West Indies in the T20 World Cup at 1.30pm.

A turtle is crossing the road when he is mugged my two snails.

When the police turn up they ask him what happened.

The shaken turtle replies, " I don't know.  It all happened so fast".

Have a good day!
