Water Garden was a good winner at Ascot on Saturday in a thrillilng finish under a great ride from Timmy Murphy. Our five year old went up a stone for winning at Wincanton but is clearly progressing and to win at one of the country's premier tracks is an excellent achievement. The Long Walk Hurdle produced an exciting finish with Dynaste trying to run the sting out of Big Buck's. At one point he looked to have the champion stayer in a degree of trouble, but Big Buck's soon came back on the bridal to score by eight lengths - what an amazing horse he is. Dynaste weakened into fourth but the way he jumped and travelled for much of the race, he certainly looks to warrant his place at the top table and he looks as though he wouldn't be inconvenienced by dropping back in trip.

Over at Newcastle I thought that Pond House debutant Bladoun finished a good third in what looked to be a fairly hot bumper. He looks to be a stayer in the making and should have a bright future over hurdles.
We have two runners at Bangor this afternoon - Bathwick Brave (Conor O'Farrell) and Martial Law (Tom Scu) both participate in the 2m1f novices' hurdle. Bathwick Brave finished just behing stablemate and subsequent winner Buddy Bolero last time, while Martial Law (a winner on the flat in France and Australia) makes his debut for the yard after a little break. There are sixteen runners and it looks to be a competitive little race.

Lee Westwood won the Thailand Open golf tournament by an amazing seven shots and looked to be in awesome form. Surely Lee will win a Major next season (although I'm sure I have said that before!) and it could be more of a mental thing as he certainly has the game to win a big one. Meanwhile Ian Poulter won the Australian Masters by three shots - he's not been at his best this season. Indeed, he is building a house in America - you would have thought that with all his money he would have got someone else in to build it for him! Golf is a better sport when Poulter is competing - the only trouble is that he is an Arsenal supporter!
