Gevrey_Chambertin__Bladoun_gallops

All eyes focus on Ffos Las this afternoon for our final runners this side of Christmas.  We have six runners at the Welsh track this afternoon and I notice that three of them are forecast to go off favourite according to the Racing Post.  Kazlian showed a good level of form on the flat in France and was runner-up on his hurdling debut at Market Rasen, while Ashbrittle makes his hurdling debut this afternoon.  He was a decent stayer on the flat and looks the type to make up into a nice hurdler.  The one that really catches the eye however is Gevrey Chambertin - the full brother to the stable's top class hurdler/chaser Grands Crus who makes his racecourse debut in the closing bumper.  He was purchased from the French Sales back in the summer and it will certainly be interesting to see how he fares.

We also have Quinte du Chatelet, Take Over Sivola and Sure Josie Sure at the meeting and stable jockey Tom Scudamore is aboard all of them.  Hopefully we will be able to go into the Christmas period with a winner or two to add to the festive cheer!

Talking of Gevrey Chambertin - I notice that he is subject of the Racing Post section "Googling A Runner" today.  I suppose appropriately (given his relationship to Grands Crus) it defines "A wine produced in the eponymous commune and that of Brochon in the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy, Gevrey Chambertin wines are highley colourful and potent, evoking blackcurrant, cherry, musk and liquorice"...Let's hope that his namesake is as potent on the racecourse!

Johnny_HatFinally, it is good to have Johnny "The Hat" Farrelly (pictured left) back.  Farrelly has come in this morning to ride out for the first time since his horrible fall at Fontwell on 6th December which rendered him unconcious (to be honest, I'm surprised that the medics could tell the difference - I guess it just goes to show what a skilled bunch they are...only joking Johnny!).  He broke his collarbone in the fall, but fortunately his injuries were not as serious as first appeared - even so, I wouldn't fancy breaking my collarbone!  A fortnight on the sidelines - it just goes to show you what a tough breed these jockeys are.  Welcome back Johnny!
