Eton Mes runs at Exeter Today

There are two jumps meetings today at Exeter and Wetherby and we have three runners at the first mentioned, Shot Boii, Eton Mes and Allstitchedup.  Shot Boii runs in the 2.20pm handicap hurdle over three miles and Rian Corcoran rides.  He did finish second over fences at Wincanton earlier this season but his latest two efforts have not been very good.  He has not seemed to enjoy jumping the larger obstacles of late so we are going over hurdles today at a track he likes, hoping this may spark a revival.  He shows all his normal enthusiasm at home but of late, none on the racecourse!  He is a horse I have always liked and I really do hope we see him a bit more like his old self today.  He probably would prefer the ground a little softer than it is going to be but he is well handicapped on old form.  He is a big price, about 25/1 and it will be a watching brief for me just hoping he enjoys it and runs well.

Eton Mes (Rian Corcorn) and Allstitchedup (Jack Tudor) run in the same race at 2.55pm, the handicap hurdle over 2m5f.  Like all races today, this one looks competitive but I hope both of our horses have good each way chances.  Eton Mes has won two out of his last three starts and found the race probably coming too soon when third at Ffos Las last time.  While he might prefer the ground softer, he handles the track and is in good form at home.  With Rian's seven pounds off I don't think he will be too far away.  Allstitchedup makes his handicap debut off a mark of 110 following two placed efforts in novice events at Ffos Las.  He has had a little wind op since then and returns to action today in fine fettle at home.  He is a giant of a horse that may also prefer the ground softer but equally the better going may help his wind.  He very lightly raced and his future lies over fences next season but he has an engine and I would not be surprised if he were to run well at odds of 9/1.

There is an all-weather flat card today at Wolverhampton while in Ireland it is St Patrick's Day and there are two jumps meetings at Down Royal and Wexford.

Yesterday, we did of course break the very sad news that Vieux Lion Rouge had passed away following a short battle with colic at the age of 17.  He was a special horse for all of us here at Pond House, especially for owners Professor Caroline Tisdall and John Gent.  He particularly loved Aintree, where he has jumped more Grand National fences than any other horse in modern-day history (254) and he won two Becher Chases, finished runner  up in one as well and ran in five Grand Nationals.  Please check out David's Blog for all the information about him and his career and you can read an article on the Racing Post by clicking on the link below.  He always lived in the stable, number 20, closest to the office and the tack room and so he was always someone I talked to most days.  He had a real presence and loved carrots, he was a cheeky character and leaves us all with some very fond memories.

The match between Brentford and Wolves finished in a 2-2 draw last night, Wolves coming back from 2-0 down to grab a point.  This evening, Champions League football action continues.  We are in the knockout stages and while Arsenal are in a good position, current level and have a home game against Bayern Leverkusen, Man City and Chelsea have it all to do but both teams are at home.  Chelsea are currently 2-5 down to Paris St Germain and City are 0-3 down to Real Madrid.  Things do not look that hopeful but you never know and anything can happen!

Would it kill the makers of avocados to put a different toy inside?

I have like 50 wooden balls already!

Have a good day.
