Best Night ran well to be second at Hereford yesterday, 'bumping in' to a well handicapped rival. Jack Tudor rode her prominently and she was probably just always doing a little too much in front throughout which cost her at the end. The ground was also not the ideal good ground she likes and like it was at Huntingdon but no excuses we were beaten fair and square and it was not a bad effort. She picked up more prize money and is fine this morning so will continue to give our David Pipe Racing Club members a lot of fun in the coming months as she is very genuine and wears her heart on her sleeve.
Last night, I watched Constitution Hill win again on the flat at Kempton. While the performance perhaps did not have the 'wow' factor of the Southwell race, he was mightily impressive once again in a race not really run to suit as they went quite slowly and it was a bit of a stop start race on the sharper track as well. There was a good crowd at Kempton for a Wednesday evening and he received a big cheer on the way back into the winners enclosure and the horse and the race again gave the feel good factor back to racing. Ryan Moore is not a man for many words so you didn't learn as much from his feedback compared to when Oisin Murphy rode him but I am sure he was quietly impressed. Next stop Newbury I believe for Constitution Hill so we can look forward to seeing how he progresses in his new discipline back on turf next month.
There are two jumps meetings today at Warwick and Chepstow but the stable does not have any runners. There are quite small field sizes at Warwick but Jack Tudor looks to have a couple of good chances of riding a winner for Christian Williams. Kap De Triomphe makes his chasing debut today at 3.28pm. This horse won well at Plumpton last time over hurdles and went up seven pounds for his win that day. He can race from a seven pound lower mark over fences today and providing he jumps well enough he looks like he will take all the beating. There are bigger field sizes at Chepstow and racing looks competitive. In Ireland there is a jumps card at Clonmel while there are two all-weather flat meetings at Southwell and Chelmsford.
International football is back this evening and there are some big games for Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales this evening in the World Cup Qualifying play-off semi-finals. The Republic of Ireland travel to the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland are in Italy and Wales are at home to Bosnia. All the matches kick off at 7.45pm.
Franchise cricket is also back today, not that I follow or understand all of it but the Pakistan Super League gets underway. Lots of the best cricketers from around the World, including several English ones will be taking part.
My husband told me he though we would have less arguments if I wasn't so pedantic.
I told him "I think you mean fewer".
Have a good day!
