On a day when flat racing probably takes centre stage for the first time in a while, we have one runner at Uttoxeter, Saccary. He runs in the opening contest on the Uttoxeter card, a conditional jockeys handicap hurdle over two miles at 1.30pm. Freddie Mitchell is on board our seven year old as Rian Corcoran is not able to ride today but Freddie, based with Gary Moore has ridden a few times for us in the past and got on well. Saccary is looking for his first win over hurdles and ran his best race to date at Huntingdon last time when second to an improver over 2m4f. I think going back down in trip on a galloping track today will suit and it looks a suitable opportunity for him to hopefully get his first win over obstacles. We are just about favourite and there a potential couple of improvers in the race but I will be disappointed if he is not involved in the finish today.
Uttoxeter is one of two jumps meetings today with the other being at Stratford but as I said, the flat is where the highest grade of racing taking place today. We have the first turf flat meetings of the season up at Doncaster which includes the Brockelsby for the two year olds and the Lincoln at 3.32pm. 22 runners go to post for this one and it looks tricky to find the winner! Eternal Force just shades favouritism for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon and he returns to action after winning his last three starts of last season. He does look the one they all have to beat but it looks wide open and I shall watch with interest! Meanwhile, in Ireland, the talking horse of recent days, Albert Einstein runs at the Curragh at 3.05pm. Ryan Moore has not gone to Dubai and stayed back to ride this horse who his two wins from two starts as a two year old and is highly regarded by the Ballydoyle team. He has not been seen on the track since May last year so there must have been a few issues but they way he has been spoken about suggests he is a bit special and so again I shall be watching with interest. There is lots of British interest over in Meydan today as well with some big races with lots of prize money on offer. Plenty to keep us entertained this afternoon.
Aside from the meetings mentioned, there is also flat action at Kempton and Southwell. There is no jumps racing in Ireland today with all eyes focused to the Curragh.
Bras D'or was disappointing at Wetherby yesterday, stopping very quickly from three out after travelling strongly. I did say he was a weak finisher but this was too bad to be true. He did not scope great after the race so at least we have a reason and we will be able to put a line through this run in the future.
I did not watch the football last night but England drew 1-1 with Uruguay in an International friendly at Wembley. Ben White went from hero goal scorer to villain by conceding a penalty in injury time for the visitors to grab an equaliser. There are plenty more International friendlies today but nothing I shall be getting to excited about! If you are into tennis, the women's final at the Miami Open takes place this evening about 7pm British time between Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff.
I caught my neighbour stealing my socks off my clothes line.
I was going to confront him, but I got cold feet.
Have a good day!
