No runners for us today but there is plenty of action to keep us entertained under both codes. Ascot is the feature flat meeting with plenty of runners including a 29 runner handicap at 2.20pm, good luck in finding the winner in that one! It is Swinton hurdle day at Haydock on a mixed card which has three jumps races and four flat races and Jack Tudor is in action there. There are two jumps meetings, one at Hexham this afternoon and the other at Warwick this evening. The other flat racing comes from Leicester and Nottingham while in Ireland they have a meeting under each code with jumping at Killarney and flat action at Naas. I think we should have more mixed racing cards in Britain like at Haydock today. I think it is great for the public to be able to watch both codes on the same day at the same track and there are plenty of racecourses where I think it could be made possible. They do it a lot in France and it seems to be well received but I am sure there must be a reason it is not done more often over here! Imagine at Lingfield in the winter you could have jumping action alongside all-weather racing, at Southwell as well maybe. Just a thought!
There was a great ride from Ryan Moore on Lambourn to win at Chester yesterday. Last year's Deby hero needed plenty of encouragement from the start of the race, looking to race quite lazily from the start but Ryan was very positive and dictated things from the start and no-one could pass, despite threatening as he gradually wound things up. Joseph O'Brien won the Chester Cup with A Piece of Heaven and Toby Moore finished ahead in second place ahead of dad in fourth!
If there is not enough racing in Britain and Ireland for you to watch today then it might be worth watching Sky Sports Racing and Stateside this evening as there is some interest over there from this side of the World. Gordon Elliott runs a trio of horses at Percy Warner Park, near Nashville Tennessee, including American Grand National winner Zanahiyr who runs at 9.40pm British time. He is up against some other ex-Irish horses so it is no easy task but it should be a good watch. Jack Kennedy goes over to ride and Danny Mullins is also over there in action.
There is plenty of Premiership football action today and Liverpool v Chelsea is the early kick off at 12.30pm. Manchester City are looking to win the game in hand they have over Arsenal and secure all three points at home to Brentford at 5.30pm. The Somerset cricketers have made a good start in their County match away to Glamorgan and have scored over 300 so far after opening the batting on day one.
Golfers Rory McIlory and Tommy Fleetwood are well in contention in the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow at the half way point and I shall enjoy watching a bit of that action this evening.
A Chinese couple had a baby that was born before the due date and the parents named him "Sudden Lee".
This is a true story not a joke but I thought it was funny!
Have a good Saturday!
