The new week starts with one jumps meeting at Southwell today but the stable does not have any runners. Jack Tudor is in action for Christian Williams and he looks to have a couple of good chances of winners. There are three flat meetings today at Catterick, Windsor and Wolverhampton and it is the first Monday evening racing of 2026 at Windsor. I quite like the tradition of courses having the same race day over a period of time like Windsor often has racing on a Monday evening. I think, especially people who live in London can guarantee to plan a nice evening out racing on a Monday and make it a regular thing. In Ireland they have a meeting under each code with flat action at Roscommon and jumping at Killarney.
Harry Cobden makes his first visit to Killarney this evening to ride Gentleman De Mee for J P McManus in the 6.37pm Grade 3 chase over 2m4f. The pair are a short priced favourite to win this race and while it will be Harry's first time of riding the ten year old he has some high class form in the book and was last in action finishing fourth in the Topham over the National fences last month. Harry is looking forward to his first visit to this picturesque track and I think he will make it a winning one. I have been to the track a couple of times and recommend a visit if you have not been before.
I did not get to watch a lot of the racing action over the weekend but there were plenty of good Derby and Oak trial winners and it was very wet in Paris yesterday for their action at Longchamp! Well done to Mia Holmes who finished second at Upcott Cross point to point yesterday in the restricted race and James Shaw was back in action as well after recovering from his concussion. Gordon Elliott did not win the feature race at Percy Warner Park on Saturday evening but he did come away with two winners from his three runners so not a bad little trip Stateside once again.
Arsenal got a vital win against West Ham yesterday which virtually ensure they will be champions while it may also condemn the Hammers to relegation. They remain behind Spurs in the table and really need Leeds to do them a favour and beat them this evening to give them any hope. Exeter Chiefs easily beat Bath yesterday in their Premiership rugby clash at Sandy Park.
Best of luck to Jack Pipe who has his first GCSE exams today, English Literature and Business are his first ones.
After the airline lost my suitcase, I took them to court.
Unfortunately I lost the case...
Happy Monday!
