There is one jumps meeting today at Hereford, another fixture to have been transferred from Worcester this season with that track not being ready to race due to winter flood damage. The stable does not have any runners today. There are actually not many runners at all at Hereford this afternoon which is a little sad to see but it is understandable with the ground described as good, good to firm in places and we could really do with some rain! The racing gets underway at 2.38pm with a two runner novices handicap chase and is followed at 3.08pm with a three runner handicap chase. There are then a few more runners in the hurdle races before it concludes with a four runner bumper - not very exciting!
There are three flat meetings today at Beverley, Bath and Lingfield while in Ireland they have a meeting under each code again. They race on the flat at Killarney and over jumps at Sligo which has attracted plenty of runners. Less racing = more runners, it is not rocket science!
Jack Tudor did ride a winner at Southwell yesterday but probably not on one he was expecting to! The team did have a couple of more fancied runners but it was the 33/1 chance, Blazing Saint who got off the mark in the novices handicap hurdle.
I am actually not in work today, having written this not at Pond House! I am just outside Milton Keynes and am playing in the Racing Welfare golf day at Woburn golf club. As a winner of one of the stable staff regional events last year I was invited by NARS (National Association Racing Stable Staff) to play on their team with other winners from last years competitions. Having initially been asked to play I was very excited and delighted to accept, as the time as got closer I am now more nervous and thinking why did I sign up! However, I love playing golf, I have just not had time to practice as much as I would have liked but it is a team event and I just hope I don't let my fellow team members down! I am sure it will be a good day and will raise lots of money for the charity. I shall let you know how we get on tomorrow!
Because I have pre-written today's story, I am not sure of the football result but I had have feeling last nights game between Leeds and Spurs was going to be a draw, I wonder if I guess right! A point would have kept Spurs in the driving seat in the relegation battle, a win of course would be the best result but equally a draw would give West Ham hope! There is no Premiership football today we do have the Championship promotion play-off semi-final between Middlesborough and Southampton kicking off at 8pm.
After starting their latest County match well, Somerset eventually lost the match yesterday away at Glamorgan. They did not bat well enough in their second innings and the home team won by two wickets.
I tried organising a hide and seek tournament...
but good players are hard to find!
Have a good day!
