Grand Clermont Winner at Uttoxeter
It was a great Sunday for the team with another winner courtesy of a very impressive performance from Grand Claremont at Uttoxeter. Our ten year old is a relatively new recruit from France who we claimed and this was just his second start on Britain. He learnt a lot from his initial outing and really enjoyed the step up in trip to three miles. He jumped fantastically and moved to the front in the last circuit and was still pulling Rian's arms out as they made the turn for home! He kept on powerfully to score easily and it was a very taking performance under another very good ride by Rian Corcoran. This was our geldings ninth career win and he has an impressive strike rate on wins to runs ratio which is why we picked him out initially - he certainly knows how to win! The handicapper is likely to have his say after this facile victory but there are a couple of opportunities for us to run him under a penalty before this. None are exactly ideal but we may have to take our chance although we will see how he is in the coming days. He seems fine this morning which is the main thing and it was a great win for the David Pipe Racing Club members.
We nearly made it a double on the day but Show Your Hand just lost out in a tight finish to be second. He travelled strongly again throughout but perhaps found himself in front a little too soon and the rival got back to pip him at the post. He is a lovely four year old who will now go on his holidays. He has a bit of growing up to do over the summer and he is a nice prospect for novice hurdling in the winter.
There is plenty of racing action this Bank holiday Monday, including two jumps meetings but the stable does not have any runners. They race at Cartmel and Huntingdon over jumps while on the flat there are three meetings at Windsor, Leicester and Redcar while in Ireland they have a jumps fixture.
West Ham were relegated from the Premiership yesterday, despite winning 3-0 at home to Leeds. Spurs beat Everton 1-0 to ensure their survival on what was the final day of the Premier League season. Today we have the League 2 play-off final between Notts County and Salford.
The French Open tennis starts today at Roland Garros while yesterday Somerset won their Vitality Blast match away against Warwickshire to make to two from two for the campaign.
I just bought a Humpty Dumpty toy from ALDI.
It even came with Aldi's king's horses and Aldi king's men.
Have a great Bank Holiday Monday!
