It was a great weekend for the yard with David landing the Midlands National for a second consecutive year, this time courtesy of the gallant Master Overseer.  He battled on really bravely in the closing stages to see of Major Malarkey, the pair of them pulling 16 lengths clear of the third.  Master Overseer won well at the start of the season over hurdles at Chepstow but had just disappointed a couple of times more recently and this was an excellent training performance from David to bring him back to land this £37,000 prize.  I thought that Tamarinbleu also ran a cracker - yes, I know that is a strange thing to say about a horse that was pulled up, but he was bang there until four out and didn't seem to get the trip.  A drop back to trips around three miles should see the veteran winning again.

There were a number of other creditable performances on Saturday with Shoegazer, African Broadway and Roi de Rose all reaching the frame and they all look to be capable of winning races before too long.

Swing_Bowler_NewtonSwing Bowler (pictured right) added to the tally with success at Newton Abbot's first meeting of the year on Sunday under Timmy Murphy.  She is now unbeaten in four starts and as a daughter of Lady Cricket by Galileo, I bet she is now worth a few quid!  It looks to me that a step up in trip will bring about further improvement in her and with another year on her back, she could be quite useful.  Talking of Newton Abbot, it was nice being back at the Devon track and it is a sure sign that summer is well on the way!

We witnessed a miracle at the weekend!  No, Martin didn't buy a round of drinks, but Fernando Torres managed to score a goal!  Actually he scored two - he had gone 25 hours without getting on the scoresheet...talk about London bus syndrome, you wait all that time and then two of them come along at once (proably the most expensive London busses ever!).

I would really like to know how the government think that they can just lease some of our roads to private companies so that they can then charge a toll on them?  Less than half of our road tax goes back into maintaining our roads and highways - I bet they don't offer to reduce the amount of road tax!
