We have three runners this afternoon, Unex Degas who contests his first hurdle race at Taunton under Conor O'Farrell and Presenting Ace and Frosted Grape at Market Rasen who are both partnered by Tom Scudamore.  Frosted Grape is back from a little break and looks reasonably treated back on her last winning chase mark of 120, while Presenting Ace is eased in grade following his run in the fiercely competitive EBF Final at Sandown the weekend before Cheltenham.

It's the start of the turf flat season this weekend and I have had a little punt on the first leg of the Spring double, The Lincoln at Doncaster on Saturday.  The horse is the Marco Botti trained four year old Cocozza.  The good news is that Joe Fanning has been booked for the ride and my man on the gallops tells me that he has been working very nicely and is well fancied for the big mile handicap.  It is a fiercely competitive race as you would expect, but you can still get a bit of 14/1 about him, and he looks well worth a little investment.

They tell me that the biggest cheer of the day at Towcester yesterday came after the first race which was won by favourite Meridiem in the hands of Chris Honour.  Apparently a number of Watford footballers were having a day out at the races and it sounds like a few of them backed the 7/2 winner.  The manager Sean Dyche is local to the area and thought it would be a nice relaxing way for the players to spend the afternoon - it's amazing how many footballers and managers like their horse racing.

Talking of football, Manchester United managed to beat Fulham 1-0 last night, although they are lucky that Wayne Rooney has been in great scoring form of late as they may have struggled to collect the three points otherwise.

Emotions will be running high tonight at White Hart Lane as Tottenham Hotspur take on Bolton in the quarter finals of the F A Cup.  Nevermind that though, I will be more interested in seeing how the Hammers fare tonight against Peterborough.  I know that a lot of my mates are not happy with the way that Big Sam has got the team playing.  They say that they are playing too defensively...I guess a draw would be a good result for them.
