There are four meetings taking place this afternoon, but the one that everyone is looking forward to is the opening day of Chester, which suitably enough features the Chester Cup (a race that David won with Mamlook in 2010, pictured above).  I hope the weather is okay because there are always plenty of poseurs with their new outfits on in the middle of the course...and yes, I am talking about the lads (mostly footballers!) and their spray tans!  We aren't at Chester today, although we do have two runners at Ffos Las this evening - Martial Law and Regal County.  Martial Law has his first start for lucky owner Stuart Mercer this evening and he is certainly well-travelled - our six year old has raced in France and Australia and travels across the Severn Bridge to race in Wales tonight!

Although we couldn't manage a winner last night at Exeter, I still thought that Water Garden ran another big race when second in the handicap hurdle under young conditional jockey Tom Bellamy.  Our gelding is now 34lbs higher than when winning in December and I would imagine the handicapper will probably be putting him up a bit more for this effort.  Standing Ovation, who had previously finished runner-up on his only start in an Irish point-to-point, ran fourth in what was probably a decent bumper for this time of year.  With that experience under his belt, I would imagine that he would be winning before too long.

On their way back from the races last night, Martin and Carol stopped in at their local pub, The Culm Valley in Culmstock.  The food and company there is always excellent and there is often something unusual going on - just take a look at the video below where you will see that landlord Richard had organised some Morris Dancers to perform.  Now you don't see that everyday!

What a great result for Liverpool last night as they beat Chelsea 4-1 in the Premiership (although I'm sure the fans will be wondering why they couldn't do that in the FA Cup Final last weekend).  I think the Reds have had a decent season - they have won a Cup and on the whole King Kenny has done a decent job of managing the team.  The biggest problem that Dalglish has is that the supporters think that they are a top four team when they are not.  Personally, I would have thought that top half of the table was a good season.

Anyway, a little bird tells me that someone at Pond House is off to the Champions League Final in Munich.  I'll give you a clue - he's a Chelsea supporter!

I cannot believe that anyone would part with the hard-earned cash to watch David Haye fight Derek Chisora.  Neither one of them hold a British boxing licence and to make things worse they are going to fight at Upton Park on July 14th.  Some of the great footballers would turn in their graves if they knew that these two clowns were trying to box on the same soil they used to grace.
