Hopefully there will be six meetings taking place today, five of them on the flat at Chester, Ascot, Hamilton, Lingfield and Nottingham, as well as a jumps card at Market Rasen. We have one runner there, Dan Breen who runs in the handicap chase at 2.55pm. Dan Breen ran some very good races in defeat last term so let's hope for a slice of luck for owner Stuart Mercer. Earlier in the week at Ffos las, his Martial Law was well in command when capsizing at the last flight of hurdles - hopefully Dan Breen will give him something to smile about.

Last night both of our runners finished third at Wincanton. Weekend Millionair did not manage to reproduce his Punchestown form and I am sure that his form is better than this, while Shallow Bay ran on nicely in the closing stages and looks the type to pick up a little race on better ground.

Former jump jockey Graham Lee is certainly doing well for himself since switching codes to the flat. He had his best day on the level yet yesterday when riding a double at Chester. He looked as strong and stylish as any of the other flat jockeys and I can quite easily see him landing a big job with one of the top flat yards before too long.

I see that it is snooker player and racing expert John Parrott's 48th birthday today. We enjoyed a good evening with John at Pond House a while back, and I will tell you what - he is a fairly handy table tennis player! Anwyay, many happy returns John.

I was interested to read that a few of the top tennis players are threatening to boycott the Madrid Open next year. They are complaining about the colour of the courts - they are blue at the moment, but the players want them to return to the traditional red...talk about divas!
