The stable enjoyed a nice winner at Worcester on Saturday when Martial Law gained overdue compensation for his Ffos Las fall a couple of starts back when landing the maiden hurdle. Always prominent under Tom Scudamore, he took up the running three out and stayed on well to score a deserved victory - it was a good bit of placing from David, although things will be a bit tougher in handicaps after the assessor saw fit to raise him by 11lbs for his fall. There were some other noteworthy performances from the weekend, including Midnight Tuesday who travelled strongly for much of the race before finishing third in the handicap hurdle from a mark of 128. Arab League also ran well on the level at Newmarket, finishing a close-up fourth in the staying handicap.

Unfortunately Shoegazer failed to give his running in the Perth Gold Cup yesterday - the problem I think that a number of trainers are facing at present is that they are entering their horses on good ground, but with all of the recent rain there are numerous going changes by the time the meetings start. The going at Perth was certainly testing - I see that some of the times were almost 39 seconds slower than the standard.

There was some good footballing action on yesterday as Italy and Spain clashed. I think that Spain play a similar style of football to Arsenal - it is very pretty, but they try to walk the ball into the net. I think they only took one shot on goal from outside of the box. The Irish were beaten by Croatia and while it is safe to say that they didn't have much luck, the Croatians did look to be much the better of the two teams.
Tonight England begin their campaign as they take on the French. If we go by Robbie Savage, England will lose. Robbie says that the side is "one of the worst England teams for years". I must say that I have to agree with the dancing queen!

Despite loving the sport, I have always wondered about boxing. How could the judges give Timothy Bradley the result against Manny Pacquiaco? Just before the result was given out, Pacquiaco was 1/200 favourite! The result stunk.

I went home yesterday and realised that I had left my son in the pub...mind you he is 31!
