It's a Saturday and once again there is no jump racing on! Instead there are six flat cards headed by the final day of Royal Ascot, as well as Ayr, Redcar, Newmarket, Haydock and Lingfield. Of course all eyes will be on Australian wonder mare Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at 3.45pm as she bids for an incredible 22nd consecutive win and her 12th in Group One company. She looks like going off at long odds-on so I will only be watching enjoying the Aussie superstar - god knows, they need one...I am of course refering to their cricket team!

I thought that John Gosden's two year old Newfangled was the star of the show at Royal Ascot yesterday with a deeply impressive performance in the Albany Stakes. The two year old filly jumped out of the stalls fast and never saw another horse, just scorching off her rivals and all this despite the bit slipping through her mouth. Unsurprisingly she has shortened up for next season's 1,000 Guineas - she is certainly bred to get the trip.

As you can see from the picture above, the main yard at Pond House has had a lick of paint and is looking really smart in preparation for the return of the horses from their summer holidays and the start of the jumps season proper. I say "summer" but I use the term advisedly...with all of the rain we have had, I am amazed that they have been able to get any painting done!

Germany were impressive as they beat Greece 4-2 and booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the European Championships - it was certainly good to see a few goals scored. We should see an entertaining game between Spain and France on ITV at 7.45pm tonight. Spain have looked to be the best team in the competition to me and are 4/5 shots to win tonight against the French. They look to be worth a bet to me.

With the weather not knowing what it is doing, it can only be Wimbledon starting next week and I see that Andy Murray is on the drift to 12/1 to win the championship because of his tricky draw. Personally I don't think it matters which part of the draw he is in - he isn't going to win Wimbledon!
